Race 5

#3 Our Girl Abby
#4 Richie’slilwildcat
#7 Gypsie Janie

I thought #3 OUR GIRL ABBY ran quite well opening weekend here when just getting nosed out by #6 Tee Up. In that stretch, she took the worst of a bumping match while chasing from behind. Now she draws inside and I think that could actually help Kendrick Carmouche use her speed to control and hold rather than chase. She will have to deal with the legitimate speed of #4 RICHIE’SLILWILDCAT, the rare Fonner Park shipper who is spotted well here. She could prove to be the speed of the speed but is going to have to prove she can get the last furlong after a battle. #7 GYPSIE JANIE was claimed by smart connections and unlike many of these has been rested and comes into this race fresh. She figures to sit behind the place and make a looming last run.

Race 8 – G2 Lake Placid

#1 Thewayiam
#6 Rushing Fall
#3 Capla Temptress
Dirt: 1,7,5

There is a real chance even this graded stakes race will come off the turf but assuming it stays on, I think it boils down to two excellent 3 year old turf fillies: #1 THEWAYIAM and #6 RUSHING FALL. Rushing Fall is clearly the favorite as she is a nose away from being undefeated and is a champion. She has improved right along like a good one would and did nothing wrong until she developed an injury and missed time including the Lake George here earlier in the meet. If that was no big deal, she is a likely winner here and will be on the Breeders Cup. At the short price though, I will try to beat her with the unlucky but talented Thewayiam. She has finished runner up in her last three starts but in each one has shown a wicked late kick in the lane that grabbed the eye. Perhaps the cutback in distance isn’t ideal but, if the favorite isn’t ready, she will be tough to handle in the lane. #3 CAPLA TEMPTRESS has been disappointing since her big win at Woodbine last year but she does figure to get the soft ground that she was used to back in England.

Race 9 – G1 Alabama

#3 Midnight Bisou
#8 Talk Veuve to Me
#4 She’s a Julie

The three top stars of the division pass on the Alabama this year, setting it up nicely for #3 MIDNIGHT BISOU to take advantage. I liked her against Monomoy Girl in the CCA Oaks and she was soundly second best that day. With her removed, I will believe one more time that she can finally take a step forward from her spring campaign and that would make her difficult to beat here. #8 TALK VEUVE TO ME is a personal favorite and could be the future star of this race but at a relatively short price, stretching out to 10 furlongs, is just too much to ask to make the top choice here. Ultimately, I think Midnight Bisou is the better bet today.
